I'm pretty excited about this quilt i just finished and gifted to a special lady in my life!
"Nana" aka Carole Williams, from the beginning has been so sweet and dear to me! I knew i really won her over when she handed me an updated list of family members birthdays, addresses and phone numbers and she had listed me as Amanda Williams, (making me her daughter!!) Of course, this was just a typo, but it gave us a good chuckle!
After Justin and I were married we had the opportunity to live with Nana and Papa, i enjoyed this time we shared together. i learned a lot by just watching her around the house with dishes, cooking, organizing and how sweet she was to Papa! She even tried to teach me piano, but it always ended in her playing the piano and me singing, (and Papa listening, of course!) Those were some of my favorite memories we've shared together!
It's always said that you truly get to know someone when you serve them and you gain an extra boost of love if they are the ones serving you. Nana is a great example of service! She's always looking for opportunities to serve those around her! When i was pregnant with Brinley and was very sick many of our family members ran to my aid! Nana offered to do my laundry during those times, she even said... "i'll do your whites also!" Friends, that is love right there! Though i never sent my whites, just knowing that she was willing to do them made me love her even more! it was also like Christmas every time my laundry basket was lovenly placed on my porch... they were folded perfectly and smelled so nice. :) all these years later it still warms my heart!
Nana, i just love you and i thought of you almost every time i sat down to make this quilt, perhaps it was always meant to be yours! I hope it brings a smile to your face and warmth to your heart to know that think you are someone special!
Quilt History: I started it back in September 2009. I signed up for the "Free Block Club" class with Aunts Kathy, Pat and Shauni at Quilts ETC in Sandy, Utah. and then when i moved to VA in November sweet Kathy sent me the patterns in the mail, and sometimes along with other patterns and cute fabrics!! That too was like Christmas!(Thank you sweet Kathy!!) The patterns were special patterns from the Oregon Trail, actual patterns they used all the way back then! Patterns included: Kansas Dug-Out, Farmers Daughter, Wagon Tracks, Whirlwind, Prairie Flower, Bear Tracks, Traveler's Star, Indian Mats, Rocky Mountain Puzzle, Broken Wheel, Prairie Queen, Log Cabin.
The fabrics of the blocks are made from the 1930's replica Aunt Gracies fabrics and all the rest was from Hobby Lobby :)
