United States Patriotic Symbols Project

All of the 1st grade students were to complete a 3-Dimensional Model of a Patriotic symbol. Washington Monument, The American Flag, The Stature of Liberty, or The Bald Eagle. At first Caitlin wanted to do the Bald Eagle out of Salt Dough, but we found out that it was pretty hard to sculpt a bald eagle... so we moved on to The American Flag!

Caitlin shaped her flag on a cookie sheet, and used a pizza cutter and a ruler to make the lines. We baked it in the oven @ 200 degrees (for almost 4 hours!) and spray painted it white. Then Caitlin painted it red and blue. We 'power glued' (with super glued) the star stickers on! She was very proud of her creation! She said to me, "Mom, i like THIS kind of homework!" (I had always enjoyed art projects as well, so it was a fun experience for us both!)

I actually forgot to take a picture of the finished product before she left for school on Friday. Here's a picture of it on display in the Library!
Way to go, Caitles!
